LEARNING HOUR

CLASSES FOR EVERY AGE AND STAGE

Join us Jan. 14, 2024 as we kick off the new year with our new Learning Hour from 8:45-9:45 a.m. each Sunday prior to our 10 a.m. worship service. Our hope is that all will learn to practice the way of Jesus, experience greater community, and get connected if you are new to ACC. We will offer three adult learning opportunities and age-appropriate classes for kids and students from birth through age 18. Please register for an adult class in advance!

There will be two sessions this winter/spring: January 14-March 10 and April 7-May 12.

FIRST ROUND CLASSES FOR ADULTS

PRAYER COHORT: WITH JESUS IN THE SCHOOL OF PRAYER

From January 14-March 10

Stressed, worried, anxious, sad, angry, depressed?

These negative emotions increase chemical levels of cortisol in your body. A little bit is good, a lot is harmful…so harmful that problems like sleeplessness, indigestion, compromised immune system, heart disease and even stroke and tumors can result!

Good news! There is a remedy! PRAYER!

Scientific studies have shown that frequent prayer can reduce cortisol levels producing peace and well-being!

Start the New Year off by developing a regular habit of prayer! “With Jesus in the School of Prayer” is an 8-week class beginning in mid-January designed to help you develop the practice of a daily quiet time with God. Based on the Lord’s Prayer and other teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, this experience will help you learn what prayer is, how to pray, and will teach you various methods to amplify your prayer time from one of duty to delight as you establish a deeper relationship with God.

The class will be taught by Perry and Sue Roberts beginning January 14: Sunday mornings at Arvada Covenant Church from 8:45 am-9:45 a.m. A second session will be offered on Wednesday evenings, beginning January 17 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Roberts’ house (8413 Quaker Cir). The curriculum is part of Sue’s doctoral thesis, and this class will be the final project. Because of this, a pre and post survey is required to measure learning and growth.

Come join in, but please pre-register as you will be given a “Book Bag” of supplies for your “school attendance.” Questions? Call Sue at 303-502-6329 or email her at srobertswithjoy@yahoo.com.
LOVE MERCY DO JUSTICE: RESPONDING FAITHFULLY TO GOD'S CALL

From January 14-March 10

This video-based curriculum will help participants discover and apply the faith-related imperatives presented in the 2011 Covenant Resource Paper: “The Covenant Church and The Ministry of Compassion, Mercy, and Justice.” We will dig deeper into the Bible, assisted by the resource paper and video presentations from Covenant leaders and North Park faculty, with the hope that we’ll be led to faithful responses that open heart, head, and hands to loving mercy and doing justice in our daily lives. The session will be taught by Pastor John Martz, Laura Rodriguez and Brian Rodriguez.

VOWS

From January 14-March 10

Most marriage vows are forgotten and never fully lived out. Whatever the stage of your marriage relationship (preparing, thriving, surviving or restoring), this experience will help you to master the five key vows of marriage (Seek God, Commit to Love, Cherish & Respect, Be Gracious & Forgive, Choose the Right Words). Teaching and couple time will be included in each session. For couples married and considering marriage. The session will be taught by Pastor Brian Rhen.

SECOND ROUND CLASSES FOR ADULTS

“REFLECTIONS ON THE PSALMS"

From April 7-May 12

Explore the ways in which these poetic portions of Scripture enrich, inform, and guide our daily life. This study will utilize C. S. Lewis’ “Reflections on the Psalms” to glean from his deep faith and literary background to help all gain insight from the Psalms. Facilitated by Ken Williams and John Martz.

NAVIGATING YOUR FINANCES GOD'S WAY

From April 7-May 12

Learn how to handle money God’s way. This course will include biblically-based video teaching, group discussion, practical tools, and weekly assignments to help you in the following areas: debt, budgeting, savings, investing, and giving. This class is for people of all ages and stages who seek wisdom and support in this area. Facilitated by Missy Rhen.

FAITH AND WORK

From April 7-May 12

Do you ever feel the gap widening between the work you do each day and your faith? Are you wanting all that time you spend at work to bring greater restoration to the people and things around you? This class will help you gain a new perspective on your work and teach you practical ways to integrate your faith into it, so your work will have more significance and impact. Facilitated by Brian Rhen and team.

CLASSES FOR KIDS

The Learning Hour for ACC Kids will be held in three separate rooms: the nursery for ages three and under, the Launch Pad for kids in preschool through 3rd grade, and the small group room (next to the Launch Pad) for kids in 4th-6th.

The Learning Hour will complement the lesson that will be delivered during the 10 a.m. hour, but will not have the same lesson or activities. The ACC Kids Learning Hour will be focused on developing close relationships between the kids and between the kids and volunteers. It will be a season of trying new things to find out what best fits our community and how we can grow into who we want to be!

The check-in and check-out processes will remain the same: check-in iPads are in the Kids Wing in the upstairs hallway by the nursery. You will need to pick your child up in between the Learning Hour and service.

We encourage all parents and caregivers to participate in an Adult class while your child is in the Kids Learning Hour.

CLASSES FOR STUDENTS

Middle and high school students (grades 7-12) will participate in a video teaching series during the Learning Hour. Sixth grade students will join their friends in the small group room in the Kids area.

We need volunteers! If you’re interested in helping out with the Student Learning Hour, please reach out to JDrew.
