The rite of blessing a child, also commonly referred to as the dedication of a child, is an opportunity for parents who want the blessing of God on their child but believe that baptism is to be reserved for those who make a confession of faith. Because children are a gift from God, the parents accept their responsibility of nurturing their child in the love and grace of God. Dedication is the personal pledge of parents to nurture according to the convictions of the Christian faith.
