We affirm the validity of infant, child, and adult baptism. Both sprinkling and immersion are practiced. To learn more or schedule an adult or infant baptism or dedication, please contact the office at 303-422-1235 or info@arvadacovenant.org.
INFANT DEDICATION
The rite of blessing a child, also commonly referred to as the dedication of a child, is an opportunity for parents who want the blessing of God on their child but believe that baptism is to be reserved for those who make a confession of faith.
Because children are a gift from God, the parents accept their responsibility of nurturing their child in the love and grace of God. Dedication is the personal pledge of parents to nurture according to the convictions of the Christian faith. Infant dedication anticipates the child’s future personal commitment of faith in Jesus Christ.
INFANT BAPTISM
The sacrament of baptism is a sign and seal of the new covenant in Jesus Christ, whereby God cleanses our sin and welcomes us into the family of God.
When parents present their child for baptism, they acknowledge God’s promise and the unmerited gift of God’s grace. Its emphasis is on what God has already done for us through Jesus Christ. In the act of infant baptism, God already provides the means of salvation and nurture within the community of faith. Infant baptism is practiced in the hope that one day the child may acknowledge and live into their baptismal calling of new life in Christ.
Through the water and the word, the child is marked with the sign of the covenant, which conveys a new identity in Christ.
BELIEVER BAPTISM
The practice of Christian baptism is directly linked to Jesus' words in Matthew where Jesus says, to go into all the world, and make disciples of all the nations baptizing them and teaching them all that I have commanded. When a person hears the word of God, repents, and believes, baptism is the symbol and sign of God's grace being offered to the one who confesses their faith in Jesus Christ.
