Cold Weather Service Opportunities in our Community, 2/24/22

Jordan Ames   -

During these frigid winter days and nights, our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness are particularly vulnerable. Arvada Covenant has several opportunities for you to help provide warmth and comfort to those in need.

Severe Weather Shelter Network
The Severe Weather Shelter Network provides emergency overnight shelter on life-threatening winter nights. On the nights we are sheltering, guests are currently being placed in nearby motels for social distancing safety (instead of being housed overnight at our church and other churches). We need volunteers to prepare and deliver hot meals to their rooms. The delivery volunteers also “check in” with each guest and pass along specific needs with SWSN staff. To learn more or volunteer, please email Barbara Carnes at carneskb@gmail.com or call her at 704-650-7151.

Colorado Safe Parking Initiative
Sheltering in vehicles is often a first stop for individuals who lose permanent housing. Without intervention and support, many fall deeper into homelessness and may eventually end up on the streets. ACC hosts Safe Parkers in our parking lot to help individuals in this situation. We currently need more evening hosts and people to prepare meals on Tuesdays and Saturdays. To learn more or volunteer, please email LeighAnn Crockett at cocrocketts@gmail.com or call her at 303-332-6839.

Mission Arvada at The Rising Church
