April 10: Mourn To Be Happy

Matthew 5 and various texts

When we are hurting and feeling pain our natural response is to duck and cover. Ironically, comfort from our sadness is often found in community. It is found as we share our stories and allow people to speak words of hope and healing into our lives.

April 17: Taken Down To Be Built Up

Genesis 11:1-9; Matthew 5:5; Philippians 2

As Jesus continues his message he says, “Blessed are those who are free of pride.” Have you wondered how to live with humility when it is so easy to indulge your pride? There was a group of people that once tried to build a tower to heaven so they could take God’s place. We can learn from that story and take down the pride in our lives.

May 1: Shown Mercy To Be Compassionate

Matthew 5:7

We find over and over again in God’s story His divine acts of mercy toward humanity. Jesus invites us to come to the “end of me,” to understand the fullness we find when we let mercy and compassion become our posture toward the humanity around us.

May 8: Made Clean To See God

Matthew 5:8

The Bible’s promise to you is that as your heart becomes pure, you will receive the most incredible blessing: you will see God. The real you will know the real Him. The relationship will not be based on performance and pretense but will be authentic. I can’t think of a greater blessing than seeing God.

May 15: Pursuit of Peace

Matthew 5:9-10

Our lives so often seem to be missing peace. We are busy, our relationships can be at odds, and often our hearts are divided. Jesus says it is a good thing to be someone who creates peace in the world. How do we do that?
