OUR MISSION
We are a collection of imperfect people, empowered by the Holy Spirit, pursuing life transformation together in the way of Jesus, impacting our local and global neighbor with the love of Christ.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our beliefs guide everything we do as a church family.
We believe:
The church is not an institution, organization or building. It is a group of broken people who need God and pursue His truth together. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him, loving others and introducing people to the great love of Jesus. (Galatians 3:28; Acts 2:40–47; Matthew 28:20)
The Apostle Paul wrote, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1, TNIV). This freedom is a gift of God in Christ, and it manifests itself in a right relationship with God and others. It is not a private gift to be used selfishly, but is given to serve the community and the world. For Paul, this freedom means that we are set free from the power of those things that on their own tend to divide. United in Christ, we offer freedom to one another to differ on issues of belief or practice where the biblical and historical record seems to allow for a variety of interpretations of the will and purposes of God. We in the Covenant Church seek to focus on what unites us as followers of Christ, rather than on what divides us. (Galatians 5:1, John 1:14, 1 Corinthians 8:13)
We believe the Bible is our guide and the ultimate authority for our lives. It tells the story of God’s love for us in creation, how we walked away from Him in sin, and Jesus’ plan to restore us in our brokenness. It is our inspiration for every act of care, compassion, mercy, and justice. (Mark 7:8–13; John 5:46; 2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:21)
Our relationship with God is broken and Jesus came to change that reality. When we accept God’s forgiveness and commit ourselves to Him we are given a new life. Jesus Christ is God with us and through His life, death, and resurrection our new life is possible: a life of love, joy, peace, and purpose. (Matthew 27:45–56; Romans 3:21–31; John 3:14–17)
The Holy Spirit is a gift from God to all believers who lives within us and guides our lives. He teaches, comforts, and empowers, and gives each follower of Jesus unique gifts. The Holy Spirit unites Christians together for the common purpose of expanding the community of believers. (John 14:14–17; John 16:5–15; Acts 1:6–8)
The first people to gather in our church community were known as “Mission Friends”—people of shared faith who came together to carry out God’s mission both far and near. Mission for them and for us includes evangelism, Christian formation, and ministries of compassion, mercy, and justice. We follow Christ’s two central calls. The Great Commission sends us out into all the world to make disciples. The Great Commandment calls us to love the Lord our God and our neighbors as ourselves. (Matthew 25:37-40, Matthew 5:13-16, 2 Corinthians 5:20)
THE EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCH
We are part of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The Evangelical Covenant Church is a rapidly growing multiethnic denomination in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God's grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through a faith with Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God's love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.
