Remodeling Campaign FAQs
- I really don't see the need for remodeling, and I just don't see the value. Why are we spending all this money anyway?
- It seems as if the wants and needs of the youth and children's ministries are altered every time there is a change in leadership. What's next after we spend all this money?
- Will the needs of the "mature" members be met, or are their needs being subordinated to the younger generations?
- Why do we need a patio? After all, it can only be used for a few month of the year!
- Do we really need the expense of new carpeting? It looked fine to me!
- Won't furniture take up too much room in the lobby? Who will actually use it?
- Does this mean we won't be building out the wings as was our original intent when we designed the church building?
- What are the financial needs and goals?
- What are the others uses of the remodeled space?
- What are the room capacities for the student and children's areas?
I really don't see the need for remodeling, and I just don't see the value. Why are we spending all this money anyway?
Let's tackle this from three perspectives:
- The Lobby - One of the primary goals of any church is to welcome visitors and enhance fellowship. The upper level remodeling plan will significantly improve fellowship opportunities within the walls of our church building. Our hope is that regular attendees will spend more time in conversation with visitors and other members due to a more open floor plan with numerous casual seating arrangements, including the new patio. In fact, last Sunday we already saw evidence of this happening in the lobby/library areas.
- The Children's Ministry Commission has initiated a creative bible teaching approach, which requires a large group gathering area, complete with stage, and multi-media capabilities.
- The Student Ministries have all been moved to the southwest side of the lower level, and they need enough room to perform Mid (Junior) and Senior High ministries in adjoining spaces. Their large group area will be multi-purpose, multi-media, and will be used by adult groups in alternating hours.
It seems as if the wants and needs of the youth and children's ministries are altered every time there is a change in leadership. What's next after we spend all this money?
The changes that have been initiated in the Children's Ministry area reflect the desires of the Commission as a whole, and not those of a particular leader. The modifications to the lower level enable us to respond to the evolving expectations of our society and allow us to be more culturally relevant to the children and youth of today. While leadership may eventually change, the need to remain culturally relevant will not.

Will the needs of the "mature" members be met, or are their needs being subordinated to the younger generations?
More than 50% of ACC's congregation is over 50 years of age. That population segment has always formed the foundation of our church. Their needs are no less important than the needs of younger generations, and we will always strive to meet or exceed their expectations, both now and into the future. Space needs for the adult ministries have been accommodated through the flex-use of various spaces throughout the church (i.e. Senior High room, Sustad Chapel, Triangle Room, various classrooms), and much of the upper level is already dedicated to adult usage.

The vast majority of visitors learn about us as they drive by on Ward road. The warmer and more inviting we can make our exterior, the more likely visitors will take the significant step of entering our parking lot and stepping into our lobby. Having a colorful patio will provide a visible impression of our church as being fun, warm, friendly and inviting. The patio is easily usable for 7-9 months of the year – Colorado has the highest number of sunny days in the U.S.!

Upon closer inspection you would quickly notice the carpet's visible wear and staining throughout the building. Most carpet has a life expectancy of 10 years, and our carpet is no exception. We have conspicuous "traffic" wear patterns, permanent staining (commercial cleaning services have given up in despair); deteriorating glue which causes buckling in numerous areas (which is a significant trip hazard), frayed seams and advanced pile wear and tear. On top of that the color is quite dated, which negatively impacts a visitor's first impression. Our new carpet utilizes high-quality, neutral-colored carpet squares to alleviate many of those problems and extend the lifespan beyond the norm.

Some additional chairs, tables and bookshelves will be added to the library and the lobby, but due to space considerations there will be minimal additions. The additional furniture is designed to encourage fellowship and provide a warm and inviting environment for everybody.

Does this mean we won't be building out the wings as was our original intent when we designed the church building?
Consider this a stepping stone toward the original expansion goal. Nothing we are doing now will detract from or preclude the full expansion from taking place when the need is felt. While we don't have a time frame for that now, our continued growth will eventually make that a reality.

The amount approved by the congregation for the project was almost $340,000. The total project will come in at that amount or less. We need about 475 families to commit to $20 a month for the next three years to meet our goal. We have about 110 families committed right now.

The lobby area will lend itself to gatherings of various kinds, along with receptions and even small dinner theatre events. The Student Ministries area(s) will be available for Adult Education at 10:45 on Sunday morning, as well as other multipurpose uses during the week when the students are not there. And groups such as CBS, Christian Home School and MOPS make use of the Children's Ministry areas as they hold their meetings during the week.
