Wonderfilled

Do you remember that feeling of wonder? The first time you held your newborn child. Or the first time you soared above the clouds in a plane. Or maybe it was that moment you felt how grand the universe truly is and how intricately life is held together. Wonder connects to the depths of our soul. But something odd happens in most of our lives. Things that once might have stopped us in our tracks or taken our breath away are now pushed aside by the next item on our “to-do” list or other more important “adult” things. Most of us aren’t filled with wonder very often anymore. Then there is Christmas. “God with us”…a baby born in a manger, God becoming man for the salvation of ALL. An act motivated by pure love. Christmas is truly filled with wonder. Join us as we journey through advent together, reawakening our sense of wonder this Christmas season.

November 27: “Free To Wonder”

Matthew 2:1-18

While many of us have the capacity to experience wonder, we also have the tendency to want to eliminate wonder altogether. There is something risky about something filled with wonder. Wonder can pose a threat to our capabilities, our control, our securities. We all find ourselves in this struggle of how to respond to the wonder of “God with us.”

Pastor John

December 4: “Finding Wonder”

Luke 1:26-34; 2:19

When you believe something, when you are intimate with something or someone, there is no need for wonder.  You don’t wonder about things you know about intimately. In this way, the longer we pursue God and walk with Jesus, the harder it is to hold on to wonder.

Pastor Nate

December 11: “Starting at the Bottom”

Luke 2:8-20

When something needs to change, people usually start at the top and work their way down.  Instead, God started at the bottom, the shepherds. Their humility allowed them to wonder.

Pastor John

December 18: “A View From The Choir”

1 Peter 1:10-12

Our point of view of Christmas is very different from the point of view of the angels.  They wonder about Christmas just like we do.  They wonder what redemption feels like in the human soul.

The Book of James

True faith produces fruit. A faith without action and without life change is ultimately a dead faith. The book of James speaks to the realities of a living faith in Jesus—the kind of roll-up-your-sleeves and get-your-hands-dirty discipleship that is borne out of an authentic relationship with the risen Lord. James writes to believers who know suffering, who’ve faced trials, and who ultimately desire a deep relationship with God. We’ll spend the next few weeks diving into this book through videos and small group discussion.

We Can’t Stay Here

What comes to your mind when you hear the word “Church”?  It doesn’t mean what it used to.  In our changing culture and community we are still called by God to love and live life with our neighbors and friends. God is looking for a church to join Him in His mission on earth.  Are we up for the challenge?

November 6: “We Can’t Stay Here”

Luke 19:10

November 13: “Show Up”

Matthew 26:36-39

Are we willing to do whatever it takes, whatever is within our ability to reach the next generation for Christ? Our church can commit itself to being a powerful influence in our students’ and children’s lives in order to see them engage with the Gospel message and be influencers for this community and the kingdom of God.

November 20: “Love Without Limits”

John 4:4-10; Matthew 21:28-32

God loves people that are different than you. God loves people that don’t believe the way you do and do things that you don’t do. Can we be the kind of people known for our love, even when those we love don’t become followers of Jesus?
